Patient Leader Spotlight
Jeanelle Adams
When Jeanelle Adams experienced a rash on her breast, she asked her doctor to refer her for a screening. Over the next two years, her symptoms progressed, and she developed a large lump in her breast. After receiving a mammogram, Jeanelle was told to immediately get an ultrasound and a biopsy.
Jeanelle was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (triple-negative subtype) of the breast and prescribed two years of treatment. Now in remission, she is receiving scans every three months.
As an advocate, Jeanelle has been using her story to support policies that will help patients around the country. She recently testified before New Jersey lawmakers about biomarker testing – technology that can help personalize treatment and detect illness faster. She sees herself as a translator between legislators and patients, providing insight into how lawmakers can help shape the future of healthcare access and improve patient experiences.
That’s why she’s also using her voice to advocate for the Health Tech Investment Act and access to timely care. This legislation would help modernize Medicare by ensuring coverage for innovative artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) diagnostic tools. These technologies can enable earlier disease detection, improve diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately lead to better patient outcomes. Importantly, the legislation would help remove financial barriers that currently limit physicians’ ability to adopt these tools, expanding patient access to advanced diagnostics and care.
