Our New Year’s Resolution: Ensure Safe Servicing

As we enter the new year, it’s time to set our resolutions for 2022. Here at Right Scan Right Time, our goal for the coming year is clear: Ensure vulnerable patients continue to have access to safe, high-quality care. To that end, we will continue fighting to ensure the safe servicing of medical devices.

Medical imaging equipment that patients and providers rely on to diagnose and monitor life-threatening illnesses must be serviced and maintained to ensure they work properly. But, because of a lack of regulation, the individuals servicing these devices are not always highly trained, nor do they have appropriate and necessary oversight.

The servicing technicians who work for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and must also undergo extensive training and are continually educated on new and updated devices. Third-party servicers, on the other hand, are not required to register with the FDA, undergo the same rigorous training, or implement quality and safety controls. This can create serious safety issues for both patients and device operators while also negatively affecting the device’s performance.

As our fight for the safe servicing of medical devices continues, we hope you’ll join us. The FDA must hold all servicers to the same quality, safety, and regulatory standards. To celebrate the new year, sign this petition to ensure every patient is treated with safely serviced devices.
